You’re Lice-Free! Here’s What’s Next...
Nit Picky After Care
While treatment is complete, proper after-care combing is essential to ensure your family stays lice-free during the natural life cycle of lice. We recommend combing every other day (Days 2, 4, and 6) or every third day (Days 3 and 6) using the lice comb provided and as instructed by your technician. This quick 5–10 minute process (depending on hair type) may occasionally uncover a few nits or even tiny bugs; this is normal and not a sign of reinfestation. If you choose not to do the follow-up combing, we recommend applying Nit Picky Eradicate Oil on Day 7 and Day 14 after your initial treatment as an alternative way to disrupt the lice life cycle. At this stage, the person is not contagious, and no further home cleaning or lice treatment is necessary.
If you have any questions during this phase, don’t hesitate to call or text us at (877) 888‑2820. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Thank you for choosing Nit Picky for your in-home lice removal. We're so glad we could help your family get lice-free quickly, safely, and stress-free. But our job doesn’t stop here; we’re here to help you stay lice-free and feel confident moving forward.
Preventative Combing & Daily Habits
To help prevent re-infestation, we recommend weekly hair inspections for the next month using the same after-care combing technique provided by your Nit Picky technician. This is especially important if your child is in school, camp, or around other children.
Daily Prevention Steps:
Apply Nit Picky Prevention Spray every morning before school or activities. Our all-natural, essential oil-based spray helps repel lice without harmful chemicals.
Keep long hair tied back in a ponytail, braid, or bun, especially in group settings.
Avoid direct head contact while hugging, playing, or sharing screens/devices.
Never share hairbrushes, combs, hats, helmets, or headphones.
Building these habits into your family’s routine makes a huge difference in preventing lice from returning.
One-Time Home Cleaning Guidelines
Good news: Head lice do not live in homes; they need a human scalp to survive. That said, we recommend simple, precautionary cleaning of items that have had direct head contact within the past 3 days. This is a one-time cleaning only; no need to repeat daily or weekly.
What to Clean After Treatment:
Hair Tools:
Soak brushes, combs, and hair accessories in hot water for 10 minutes.
orSeal them in a ziplock bag and place them in the freezer overnight.
Bedding & Clothing:
Wash and dry pillowcases, bed linens, recently worn clothes, hats, and jackets.
If items are clean, simply run them through the dryer on high heat for 20–40 minutes.
Stuffed Animals & Throw Pillows:
Dry on high heat.
Or bag them and set aside for 72 hours (3 Days).
Furniture & Car Upholstery:
Use a vacuum or lint roller on car seats, couches, carpets, and fabric furniture.
Hard Surfaces (plastic, wood, leather):
Wipe down with disinfectant wipes or a damp cloth.
Pets:
No need to worry, lice do not live on dogs, cats, or other animals. They only survive on human blood.
