How To Tell Someone They Have Head Lice?

Posted on May 17, 2018 at 1:20 PM

Head lice is that dirtly little sercret that nobody wants to talk about. So how do you tell a friend that they have had lice? It's a difficult subject since nobody wants to deliver bad news, especially to a friend. At the risk of loosing a friendship or your friend getting mad at you for telling them that they have lice, honesty is always the best policy in friendships. As a professional service, we see people upset that they have head lice, but we see friendships and trust broken when they discover that their friends knew about it and did not tell them. If you know a friend has head lice, do them a favor and tell them that have head lice. Be a friend and tell a friend.

Affordable Lice Removal Service

Posted on May 16, 2018 at 3:20 PM

Did you know that professional head lice removal service is affordable? Hiring a professional lice technician can save a significant amount of  time and money? The average do it yourself lice treatment can cost upwards of $300 plus on store bought lice products and eight to ten hours per person to remove nits. An average family typically takes up to three weeks of do it yourself treatments before throwing in the towel and calling a professional service. During this time the family endures stress, school absences, and missed work days. The amount of time and money lost varies per family, however the loss quickly accumulates. The cost of the financial burden outways the cost of hiring a professional service.

Nit Picky's professional lice removal service typically takes one to two hours per person for a full treatment. The cost is $99.00 per hour and is completed in one treatment, in one day. During the appointment all family members can be screened and treated if needed to avoid cross contamination. Do yourself and your family a favor, if you contract head lice call a professional. It can save you time, money and peace of mind.

How do you feel about your schools head lice policy?

Posted on January 16, 2018 at 10:10 AM

Many parent's turn to Nit Picky frustrated at their childs school over head lice. We receive reports that schools are not sending head lice notifications home due to privacy laws or that not enough cases have been reported to issue the letter. Parent's are left feeling helpless and nervous that their child will continue to be exposed and contract head lice. So what is going on with the schools and their head lice policies?

According the Center of Disease Control (CDC):

"Students diagnosed with live head lice do not need to be sent home early from school; they can go home at the end of the day, be treated, and return to class after appropriate treatment has begun. Nits may persist after treatment, but successful treatment should kill crawling lice.

Head lice can be a nuisance but they have not been shown to spread disease. Personal hygiene or cleanliness in the home or school has nothing to do with getting head lice.

Both the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) advocate that "no-nit" policies should be discontinued. "No-nit" policies that require a child to be free of nits before they can return to schools should be discontinued for the following reasons:

Many nits are more than ¼ inch from the scalp. Such nits are usually not viable and very unlikely to hatch to become crawling lice, or may in fact be empty shells, also known as 'casings'.

Nits are cemented to hair shafts and are very unlikely to be transferred successfully to other people.

The burden of unnecessary absenteeism to the students, families and communities far outweighs the risks associated with head lice.

Misdiagnosis of nits is very common during nit checks conducted by nonmedical personnel."

Head Lice, The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Head Lice, The Gift That Keeps On Giving

The holidays are over, the decorations are taken down and stored away, and the children are back in school. We have a little surprise for you, there is still a gift that can arrive at your home unexpectedly after the holiday season. It is not a gift that you will enjoy, unfortunately there will not be an option to return to sender. It is the gift given from a good friend, neighbor, or relative and is received through a loving gesture, a hug at a family gathering. You will not know the gift has been exchanged until three to six weeks after you have recieved it. Unknowingly, children will take this gift to school and share it with their friends, who will go home and share it with their families. It is the gift of head lice that will unexpectedly show up mid January through early February. Give us a call for a quick head lice screening or check your family regularly this time of year to ensure that you did not receive a special surprise during the holiday season.

Head Lice, Why is my school not doing anything about it?

Head lice is a subject most of us do not want to talk about until it happens to your family. One of the biggest questions that we hear is "Why is the school not doing anything about it?
